  • If you currently hold an RN license with a Multistate privilege in a Compact state, you do not need a license in Montana to practice (look yourself up at https://nursys.com/ if you don’t know your status).

If you are changing your primary state of residence to Montana, you will need to apply for a license in Montana with 60 days of your change in residence.  See https://www.nursecompact.com/ for more information and FAQs.

  • If you do not hold a license in another US state, you will need to submit a credential evaluation service report from CGFNS or Josef Silny & Associates.  At this time, the Montana Board of Nursing is not accepting credential evaluations from any other credential review agency.  We will update our website if and when this changes.
  • Occurs every other year.  If you are an "odd" licensee, your license must be renewed by December 31st of odd numbered years, if you are an "even" licensee, your license must be renewed by December 31st of even numbered years. Renewal applications post marked or submitted online after this date are subject to additional fees.
