The following outlines Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensing information. For specific information on filing an application, you will need to obtain the Application which includes instructions. 

Checklist for APRN license

  • Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP)
  • Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM)
  • Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)
  • Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)

  • Occurs every other year.  If you are an "odd" licensee, your license must be renewed by December 31st of odd numbered years, if you are an "even" licensee, your license must be renewed by December 31st of even numbered years. Renewal applications post marked or submitted online after this date are subject to additional fees.
  • $50.00 per APRN certification type.
  • $75.00 per additional APRN certification; only for adding a certification to an existing Montana APRN license.  Complete this Application and mail in with required information.
  • Must complete 24 contact hours of continuing education during each 2 year license renewal period.  A random audit of licensees will be performed.  (See rule 24.159.1469).
