*Potential Board of Nursing Scam Alert*

Recently, the Department of Labor and Industry was notified of a licensee being contacted by someone projecting to be calling from the Board of Nursing, demanding to speak to the licensee urgently regarding a Board investigation of their license. Please be aware the Board will never let a licensee know of an investigation in this manner.  If you want to verify contact by someone reaching out from the Board or the Department of Labor and Industry, please call 406-444-6880. If you are contacted by someone stating they are from the Board of Nursing or the Department of Labor and Industry but you have not received written communication indicating this, please report the contact to your local law enforcement officials.

  • The Montana Board of Nursing has adopted their proposal to repeal continuing education requirements that were part of the renewal process, effective Saturday, November 18, 2023. This means that LPNs, RNs and APRNs licensed in Montana are no longer required to maintain 24 contact hours of continuing education as part of the license renewal process.

  • Montana has been a member of the NLC since 2015 and has been issuing multistate compact licenses to nurses who meet the Uniform Licensure Requirements for a multistate license since that time.

If you hold a Montana RN or LPN license and want to know if your license is a multistate license, you can look your license up at Montana’s Licensee Lookup and Nursys using the QuickConfirm option.

    Announcement: New NLC Rule

Starting Jan 2, 2024, a new NLC rule will be in effect.  Nurses relocating to another compact state have 60 days from the time they move to apply for a new license by endorsement in a new primary state of residence.

The new rule (effective beginning January 2, 2024) reads:

402(2) A multistate licensee who changes primary state of residence to another party state shall apply for a multistate license in the new party state within 60 days.
