Renewal fees for licensed Massage Therapists begin July 3, 2025. Licensees that renew after August 31st, will be charged the regular renewal fee, plus late fees.

  • Substantial Equivalency Standardized
Defines education, examination, and experience as the factors determining whether another state's licensing standards are substantially equivalent to Montana's, with an option to address deficiencies using an applicant's actual qualifications and work experience.

    Adopting the Interstate Massage Compact
Provides a multistate license for massage therapists as an addtional licensing pathway that would create reciprocity among participant states and reduce barriers to license portability. You can find additional information about the interstate compact here: https://massagecompact.org/

    Apprenticeship Programs
Establishes a framework for apprenticeship programs that allows individuals to obtain professional licenses upon completion of a nationally recognized apprenticeship. Specfically, it mandates that boards or programs grant licenses to applicants who successfully finish an apprenticeship in various occupations, as outlined in the bill.

Revisions of Board of Massage Therapy member qualifications
Allows for seated members of the board to serve on a national professional association.

    Contigent Litigation Fund Established
On July 1, 2025, this bill became effective. For boards with revenue of $200,000 or less based on a preceding fiscal 3-year rolling average adds a fee (currently $5.00) to all renewals and new licenses for that board until the contigent litigation fund exceeds.
