Montana Board of Real Estate Appraisers

License Information

New Licensees/Applicants: The board recognizes that the current pandemic has created discord in the normal application, examination, and licensure process. We are striving to address these concerns and potential roadblocks as quickly as possible; however, please understand that this will not occur overnight. The board must continue its public safety mission while adapting to daily changes occurring from the pandemic. This will take time. For now, applicants are encouraged to begin their application for licensure and to complete as much of the required information as possible. Applications remain valid for one (1) year under normal circumstances. If you submit your application and an item is missing, our licensing specialist will work with you to complete the application. We do not deny applicants for submitting an incomplete application. By completing the application’s remaining parts, exempting exams, etc., you can get ahead on the licensure process. The board is continuing to monitor the pandemic and will update this website as a point of public communication.  Please make sure your email address is up to date in our licensing records using the change address form under Quick Links or email the help desk at

All non-routine applications are reviewed by the Board at their regularly scheduled board meetings. The Board only meets four times a year.  If we are unable to process your application in time for the Board meeting, your application may not be reviewed until the next regularly-scheduled Board meeting.  To ensure that your application is reviewed at the earliest available meeting date, please allow at least 45 days from the meeting date for staff to process your complete application received in the Board office.  The schedule of board meetings can be found under the Board Information/Board Meeting tab or on the Events calendar.

Please utilize the checklists for the list of required documents which must be submitted with each license appilcation type.

For a list of approved qualifying and continuing education, please click on the Education tab.  You must contact the education provider listed next to the course to inquire about availiability of the course.

Exam candidates will be notified of your eligibility to test when the Board has reviewed your application and the required documents.  Do not schedule your exam before you have been made eligible to test.

Results of the Fingerprint Background check will be sent directly to the Board office from the Department of Justice.

The Board utilizes the Montana Appraisal Review Report form to review all appraisal reports.
