  • What funeral service professions and related business are licensed in the state of Montana?
    Moticians, mortician interns, crematory operators, crematory technicians, mortuaries, mortuary branch facilities, crematories, and private, for-profit cemeteries (see excepted cemeteries in 37-19-803, MCA)
  • Mortician, crematory operator, crematory technician, mortuary, mortuary branch, and crematory licenses expire on July 1.

    Cemetery licenses expire on a five year period beginning on July 1, 2000 (ARM 24.147.505). This means all current cemetery licenses will expire on July 1, 2020. If a new license is issued prior to the renewal period in 2020, it will also expire on July 1, 2020.

  • You will have up to two years to renew your license before it terminates. However, you will need to pay the renewal fee(s), late fee(s), and meet continuing education requirements. Anyone practicing after a license has expired is considered to be practicing without a license.

    Licenses not renewed within two years automatically terminate. If your license has terminated it cannot be reactivated and you must apply for a new license under current licensing requirements.
