Welcome to the Montana Board of Realty Regulation

The Board of Realty Regulation contains relevant information pertaining to the licensing and regulation of real estate salespeople and brokers in Montana.
 
Individuals who engage or conduct business as a real estate broker or real estate salesperson in Montana must apply to the Montana Board of Realty Regulation for licensure. The Board assures the basic requirements are met and evaluates the applicant for good repute and competency to transact business in a manner that safeguards the interests of the public.
  • The group professional liability insurance/errors & omissions policy for the Board of Realty Regulation is now available for enrollment.  All licensed real estate brokers and salespersons are required to maintain continuous professional liability insurance coverage.

    To enroll, scroll down to select the State (Montana) from the drop down list, then enter your email to see if an account already exists (it is not necessary to create an account but the licensee’s email is needed to complete the transaction and receive a certificate of coverage, copy of policy, and any applicable endorsements).  If you do not have an account, it will say “ That email appears to be new.”  If you log in, your historical data will be stored and you can go back and pull up copies of certificates and forms at any time.  If you do not log in, you will not be able to obtain your historical data without contacting the company for copies.

  • During the 2025 Legislative Session, the Montana Legislature passed HB 276, impacting how the Department of Labor & Industry serves legal notices.

    What’s Changing: All licensees and applicants are required to provide the department with their current mailing address and any change of address within 30 days. Individuals may consent to electronic service of legal notices by providing a current email address and updating within 30 days of any change.

    All applications and renewals with the department will include the following:

    1. Three additional attestations covering the individual’s responsibility to provide a current mailing address and participate in the complaint and contested case processes.
    2. One question asking the individual if they wish to consent to receive service of Notice of disciplinary matters by email. Once the individual has consented to electronic service, they will not be asked to consent again in future transactions with the department.
